Day Three on the The Cambrian Way mountain trail 479 km (298 miles) with a total ascent of 22,460 m (73,700 ft). I think it could be Britain's hardest long distance trail. Its hard to say but looking at the map i think i started todays episode around the Mynydd Garnclochdy area i want give exact camping locations away. I was so wet from the rain all night i set about getting ready to walk around 4am just to keep warm. I was no risk at cold from the time of Year and in good health. So walked back up towards Mynydd Garnclochdy i think. The rain came back on top the hill. The rain was very bad so much so i could only see about couple of meters ahead what with the mist as well as the dark even with two powerful lights. By this time my cannon camera was destroyed by the weather i should know by now and my phone was useless take note people think phone navigation fine lucky i know this i used my garmin fenix3 gps watch with the track loaded onto so i knew i was heading in the general dir
My pre summer solstice trip to Scotland June 2019.
Summer solstice countdown 07/June/2019 day 3
last night i camped at a beach at called Bagh A'Deas Vatersay this a is a fantastic little out the way beach most people camp down at Traigh a Bhaigh beach by the public toilets and showers also Traigh Shiar beach on the other side the tombolo Isthmus. You can get the W33 bus to here from Castle bay ferry port but to be honest hitchhiking would be quicker i would think. I will be walking back and hitchhiking today. I got a lift to the co op supermarket in Castle bay where i restocked on food and water. From there i got the W32 bus to CalMac Ferries Ardmhor port here there is electric sockets so i charged my gear for a bit digital nomad or maybe as i said more of a digital hobo style. From there i walked towards Barra beach Airport you can also get the W32 bus from Castle bay to the airport. I had the treat of seeing a passenger plane take off and land on the beach. Barra airport is unique, being the only one in the world where scheduled flights use a beach as the runway. Barra Airport opened in 1936. The beach is set out with three runways in a triangle, marked by permanent wooden poles at their ends, in directions 07/25, 11/29, 15/33. This almost always allows the Twin Otters that serve the airport to land into the wind. At high tide these runways are under the sea: flight times vary with the tide. Emergency flights occasionally operate at night from the airport, with vehicle lights used to illuminate the runway and reflective strips laid on to the beach. In 2011, Barra Airport was voted No.1 in the world's top airport approaches.
From the airport i walked towards Saint Barr's Church. Within the stone walls enclosing the site stand three chapels, two now ruinous, dedicated to St Barr, the 7th-century Irish monk who gave his name to the island of Barra. The chapels probably date to the 12th century and later, but may occupy the site of much earlier buildings. The north chapel, by contrast, has been restored and now houses several medieval grave slabs found in the graveyard, as well as a replica of the Kilbar Stone, or Clach Chille Bharra, a Christian-Nordic rune stone. Within the restored north chapel stands a replica of a wonderfully carved stone cross combining both Christian and Norse symbols. As one of the few examples of artefacts where both Nordic runes and Christian symbols are found together, the Kilbar Stone is of national importance. The original cross is housed in the Scottish Museum of Antiquities in Edinburgh, despite intermittent efforts to have it returned to its home on Barra.
I camped on the best beach ever not far from the beach airport
